Hattennoki offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to enhance proficiency in various aspects of the English language. Classes for all as well trainings for educators vary from learning to read to developing reading fluency to fundamental grammar rules, vocabulary expansion, and reading comprehension strategies.

CLASSES FOR ALL

Learners develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, including essay/business writing and effective communication of ideas.

Speaking and pronunciation exercises are meant to help improve verbal communication, while listening comprehension activities aid in understanding spoken English in different contexts.

Cultural insights are integrated to foster a deeper understanding of English-speaking communities.

Optional modules may delve into specialized topics such as business English or academic writing. With a focus on catering to learners of diverse backgrounds and skill levels, these classes aim to equip individuals with the language skills necessary for success in both personal and professional endeavors.

LEARN TO READ, READ TO LEARN (L2R R2L) - FOR EDUCATORS

L2R R2L is a highly innovative, engaging, and meaningful 20 hours program that introduces educators (and parents) to the world of phonemic awareness and provides science of reading-based tools and strategies to build fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension.

What is offered?

The program enables Pre-K-5 teachers (and parents) to understand the following concepts deeply:

Session 1 – Phonological Awareness – tools, activities, strategies, and games for explicit and systematic instruction for teaching phonics, decoding, and word recognition effectively are shared in this session.

Session 2 – Learning to Read + Spelling and Writing – this session focuses on blending strategies and activities to enable students to apply phonics knowledge to reading, spelling, and writing.

Session 3 – Fluency and Comprehension – this session focuses on strategies and activities to help learners improve reading rate and accuracy, prosody and expression, build fluency and comprehension, strategies and provide tools for monitoring learners' fluency and comprehension skills, and use assessment data to inform instructional decisions.

Session 4 – Vocabulary – integration of vocabulary instruction into reading and writing instruction, use of word analysis and other strategies to build vocabulary, strategies and activities to help learners understand, learn, and use academic and content-specific vocabulary are shared in this session.

Session 5 – Comprehension and Reading to Learn - this session covers assessing and adapting instruction to learners' reading comprehension skills, concept of text complexity and how to choose texts that are appropriate for learners' reading levels and interests, digital resources and reading tools, importance of culturally responsive teaching, and review.
